On Friday October 21, 2016 the Los Angeles Community College held its Fall Classic Hiring Event in partnerships with Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The event was open to all members of the community and employers from different industries were present and ready to hire. Workshops of the following were provided throughout the half-day event: expungement of record, resume writing, dressing for success, and social media.
The event started with a fantastic speech by State Senator and State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon encouraging the attendants to find a job and be persistent. LACC provided professional business attire for those individuals who did not have those available resources. Participants that attended the event include veterans, youth, students, seniors, and the currently unable to find work. For this very reason the Los Angeles County Community and Senior Services (CSS) AJCC Operations team was invited to provide information on services offered through its workforce centers.
Participants flooded to the CSS AJCC Operations booth and asked questions regarding their specific situations and the CSS staff was happy to refer them to their local center and provide general information. There seemed to be a misconception that the only services offered at the centers were for the unemployed and the public was extremely happy when supportive services were described to help those who were currently enrolled in a training or educational institution.
There were over 80 employers at the event and the one on one discussions helped attendees schedule interviews and prepare for job trainings. The event was a huge success and CSS AJCC Operations was invited to attend other events to provide the information regarding workforce services.
