Ride Freely with New Freedom Transportation

Given LA County’s large geographic size and the sheer amount of people on the road at any given point during the day, transportation can be a bit overwhelming and stressful for most people in LA County. But it is still a huge part of our daily life. Whether you are driving your own car or taking public transit, everyone needs a way to get around. However, for some, it’s not that simple.

Some older adults in LA County experience barriers when seeking transportation services. Typical day to day errands like grocery shopping and medical appointments, not to mention social gatherings, become increasingly difficult to attend. At WDACS, we strive to enhance transportation services to older adults and persons with disabilities to continue fostering age friendliness of Los Angeles County.

The New Freedom Door Assistance Transportation Program is a same-day service that allows older adults (over the age of 60) and/or disabled adults, to get where they need to go while maintaining their independence, health, and well-being. Those who use this service can travel anywhere within Los Angeles County for reasons such as medical appointments, grocery shopping, social and recreational events, employment opportunities, education, and more at no cost.

Door Assistance services are available 7 days per week. Special accommodations, such as wheelchair accessible vans and ramps are available. Applications to this program can be requested by emailing newfreedom@wdacs.lacounty.gov, calling 1-888-863-7411, or completing an online application here.
